Jazz Music
Jazz music originated in the beginning of the 20 th century or arguable as early as the 19 th century. Jazz music is one of the longest-lasting genres and enjoys a large loyal following to this day and has long been considered as the music genre that changed the face of modern music.
Music scholars will argue to jazz formed the roots for all modern genres of music, including blues, rock'n'roll, pop, indie, punk and everything else you could think of. Jazz music itself is difficult to define and is the topic for many an argument between enthusiasts, however jazz music has a number of sub genres under the jazz music heading, including nujazz, acid jazz, swing, bebop, dixie and a number of others.
Jazz music has often been considered as a fusion between African, American and European music styles, originating when the slaves were brought from Africa to the United States , however die-hard jazz music fans will argue that jazz music is purely American music from the Southern States, with the focus being on New Orleans.
Typical instruments used in jazz include saxophones, clarinets, banjos, trumpets, coronets, trombones, pianos and a huge number of other instruments, with a number of jazz music bands consisting of over ten different musicians.
Although jazz music is not currently as popular as it once was, contemporary jazz music can be heard on a number of television shows, movies and commercials and a number of cities and towns will hold jazz music nights, as well as there being a number of jazz clubs across the UK.
