Jazz Band
Jazz is a hugely popular genre of music and combines a number of different sub-genres, each using a single jazz musician or a jazz band. A jazz band is considered to be an ensemble of musicians that will play jazz music without the presence and guidance of a conductor.
A jazz band will usually consist of a rhythm section and a horn section, playing a number of different rhythm patterns and musical technicalities.
The rhythm section of a jazz band will generally include percussion, double bass or bass guitar and an instrument that is capable of playing chords, such as a piano, guitar or organ.
Generally the rhythm section of a jazz band will include a number of these for a more varied sound, as the rhythm section is the heart of the music of a jazz band. The horn section generally includes wind and brass instruments to play melodies and accompaniment.
During the jazz and swing eras that comprised the majority of the mid-twentieth century, the most successful of the jazz bands and orchestras were recruiting and employing stringed instruments in expanded arrangements, however this was mainly due to the visual impact these instruments would give to a jazz band.
Throughout the jazz era the role of a jazz band was hugely important and it was through their popularity that led jazz to be as well-known as it is today. The majority of jazz bands can be heard in a number of venues including live performances at local jazz clubs or jazz nights.
